NCP Blog: Smoothies are Refreshing and Healthy Treats

Do you ever make or purchase smoothies? They’re one of my favorite things to make, especially in the mornings! Smoothies are a quick and easy way to enjoy a healthy breakfast, and they’re a great opportunity to sneak in fruits and veggies any time of the day.

 

Another great thing about smoothies is that they’re totally customizable based on what flavors you like. You can even mix it up on a daily basis and have a different version every day!

 

If you have kids, this liquid drink is a good way to ensure they’re getting some fruits and vegetables into their diet. My kids turn up their noses at veggies, but they’re eager to drink a smoothie- even if they know it has “green stuff” in it!

What’s a Smoothie, Anyway?

 

A smoothie is a beverage created by pureeing ingredients in a blender. You’ll need a liquid base, such as water or yogurt. From there, you can add fruits, vegetables, crushed ice, and other supplements like protein powder.

 

Using frozen ingredients and ice will make your drink colder, which is extra refreshing on hot summer days. And, you can add more or less liquid depending on how thick you want your beverage to be.
